Don't miss award-winning Canterbury poet Alex Vellis reading from his new collection, just out with indie Kent publisher Whisky & Beards. An exciting voice on the poetry scene Alex's work explores themes of futility and loss, hope and home, identity and love.
Writing since he was 12, and with five publications, Alex runs many poetry events around Kent and is co-producer (with Connor Sansby) of the online poetry festival 'Winchesterfest'. He's headlined across the UK, from gigs with thousands of people to intimate campfire gatherings.
'A rare use of character-based prose poetry, this is an Under Milk Wood for the dispossessed. Full of passion, brutal mouths and interlocking journeys. A contemporary epic.' – Joelle Taylor, TS Eliot Prize 2021 Winner
'Vellis writes with a deep conviction, imbuing his subjects with a poetry rich in image, argument and pathos. Poems resist each other, they turn and move in ways that bring the page to life. There’s never a wasted moment here. These are brilliant poems to inhabit and explore.' – Anthony Anaxagorou, TS Eliot Prize 2019 Shortlisted
