Walter Benjamin - Following the Flaneur's Tracks

The famous 1930s thinker Walter Benjamin is feted in academia, from new photography students to seasoned psychogeography practitioners. But his fate as a refugee is less well known. In 2019, walking artist and writer Simon Cole followed in Benjamin's footsteps - from the shimmering shopping arcades of Paris that he couldn't finish documenting, to a lonely town on the Spanish border where the trail ends. A pilgrimage to the edge of 1930s Europe in search of an exceptional individual, this journey asks difficult questions of our relationship to the unknown and uncelebrated who seek sanctuary on our shores today.
