Lady Brenda Hale

In 2019, President of the Supreme Court Lady Brenda Hale drew global attention when she wore her signature spider brooch to announce the court’s unanimous ruling that Prime Minister Boris Johnson had illegally suspended Parliament. Her memoir traces her life as a pioneering reformer and her determination in triumphing over institutional sexism, from becoming the first woman and the youngest person to be appointed to the Law Commission to becoming the first woman to serve on the newly created Supreme Court, serving as President from 2017 to 2020. Her motto is ‘women are equal to everything’.

Lady Hale will be in conversation with writer Catherine Taylor, editor and critic for Guardian Review, FT Life & Arts, the Economist and the TLS, among others.
