A chance remark sent Simon Cole walking in the footsteps of famous 1930s thinker and psychogeography icon Walter Benjamin. Following the threads, he found himself immersed in a labyrinthine story of war, ideology and refugees that spanned a century. From the coast of Kent to the camps of Calais and eventually to the ruins of Ukraine, he found hope and inspiration in the form of a young woman activist who calls to us to take action in the face of darkness.
