Miranda Seymour

Celebrated biographer Miranda Seymour turns her forensic eye on the writer Jean Rhys, the acclaimed author who was awarded an honorary doctorate by Kent University after the publication of Wide Sargasso Sea.

The book traces Rhys's life and work, and the crucial 17 years that she spent living on the remote island of Dominica, which haunted her mind and work for the rest of her life. A proud and fiercely independent artist, Jean Rhys had more than her fair share of tragedy and extreme poverty – and yet as the book reveals, she was never a victim.
