Tim Shipman

Tim Shipman

After No.1 bestsellers All Out War, Fall Out and No Way Out, the Sunday Times chief political commentator Tim Shipman talks to author, journalist and former Newsnight presenter Gavin Esler about Out!, the rollicking, unrestrained latest instalment in Tim's essential account of modern British political history, covering the Johnson years, through the tussles over the final Brexit deal to our shortest serving PM ever.

Tim Shipman is the former Political Editor and now Chief Political Commentator of the Sunday Times. He grew up in Lincolnshire and attended Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Horncastle; he has been a national newspaper journalist since 1997, also having reported from Westminster for the Daily Mail and the Sunday Express. He was Washington correspondent for the Sunday Telegraph during Barack Obama’s historic first election campaign and was shortlisted for the Political Journalist of the Year award at the British Press Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Gavin Esler is an award-winning broadcaster and podcaster, journalist, and writer. Best-known as a presenter on BBC2’s Newsnight, he is a regular writer and commentator in the mainstream press, and has authored five novels; plus non-fiction works Brexit Without the Bullshit; How Britain Ends; and Britain is Better Than This. His podcast series about Vladimir Putin, The Big Steal, was nominated for the 2021 Webby Award for Best Documentary Podcast. His podcast series This is Not A Drill explores threats to global stability from Ukraine to China to the Middle East.
