Set Free is Emma Slade's first book. Emma was a high-flying debt analyst for a large investment bank, when she was taken hostage in a hotel room while on a business trip to Jakarta. Realising that her view on life had profoundly changed, she resigned from her financial career and began travelling and exploring yoga and meditation and, in Bhutan, opened her eyes to a kinder, more peaceful way of living. In Set Free she tells her story.
After becoming a Buddhist nun in 2012, Emma travelled regularly to Bhutan and was asked in 2014 if she could help some young monks in one of the poorest areas in south-east Bhutan. In 2015 she set up the UK charity Opening Your Heart to Bhutan – to help children in Bhutan. She continues to travel to Bhutan frequently to manage charity projects and continue her Buddhist studies.
Emma is an enthusiastic speaker, proud of her Whitstable heritage. She has been featured in national and international press, television and radio as a result of writing Set Free. Emma will be in conversation with Sarah Pullen, author of A Mighty Boy.
