Peter Barton

Military historian Peter Barton is an authority on First World War history and battlefield archaeology. In 2016, he wrote and presented a three-part BBC documentary for the Centenary,'The Somme: From Both sides of the Wire'  – sharing insights from his research into the German archives. The subject of his talk is 'Challenging Histories', focusing on the differences between being a writer of fiction and a writer of fact, drawing on Peter's research into military archives, and interviews with veterans, for whom in some instances he has taken on the role of 'confessor'.

His publications include Beneath Flanders' Fields: The Tunnellers War, 1914–1918, The Battlefields of the First World War and Arras – The Spring 1917 Offensive in Panoramas.
